The HcG (human chorionic gonadotropin) diet is a low calorie diet that does not involve any exercise. The diet is designed to trigger the body to liberate fat stores and reset the hypothalamus to assist in the prevention of regaining weight. You will be given HcG drops, a meal plan, and fat burning tips to help activate weight and fat loss. The HcG diet plan will include 500 calories a day with your body releasing approximately 2,500 calories so you don’t feel hungry. You will eat 5-6 meals a day and drink 2L of water to help flush toxins. The general weight loss is 1-2kg per week with fat loss ranging between 1-1.5kg a week.

Three Phases Of HCG

The HcG Diet Plan consists of three phases. The first phase is ‘loading’ where you eat anything you want for 2 days to build up your fat stores. This is also when you start taking your HcG drops, to help prepare your body for the low calorie phase of the diet. Interestingly, people who do the loading often lose more weight. Phase two consists of reducing your caloric intake to 500 calories per day. Essentially, your body then thinks it’s starving and it flicks a switch and starts burning your own fat for energy. With your naturopath, you will create a meal plan with full direction, understanding that each body is unique and each individual will receive different results from diet and exercise plans. During this phase you can burn over 2,500 calories from your own fat which is the equivalent of you doing 6 hours of cross training every day … without doing any. Thanks to these fat stores being released into the bloodstream, most people report having little to no appetite while following the HcG diet plan, yet still maintaining their energy levels. The typical fat loss is 1-2 kg per week for women, with men shedding slightly more. This phase lasts for 6-7 weeks before we move you to phase three.

Low glycaemic phase three is scheduled for 2 weeks, during which time we support your liver and replenish your body’s oils. This also gives your body a break from fat burning. This phase also helps teach you how to keep the weight off. The purpose of this part of the diet is to give your body and mind a rest while teaching you how to maintain your weight. The phase 3 part of the diet is very close to your maintenance diet. This phase helps your body reset your set point (the weight it believes is healthy for you) so as to help you not put weight on in the future. If you need to lose further weight you would then restart the program again, rotating between the two diets until you have reached your ideal weight. You will typically lose between 1 – 2kg of weight, with fat loss around 1 – 1.5 kg of fat per week. This is a good level of loss without it being too fast.

What is HcG?

HcG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. It is a natural hormone found in pregnant women where its use is to nourish a developing fetus. The use of HcG for fat loss was first introduced in the 1950’s and it has been popular ever since.

How does the HCG diet plan work?

The HcG Diet plan works by raising HcG in your body. When HcG is raised, in conjunction with a low 500 calorie diet, your body will suppress your appetite so you won’t be hungry and will burn fat for energy. You can burn over 3000 calories per day which is the equivalent of you doing 6 hours of cross training per day … without the need to do any.

Will I get hungry on only 500 calories?

Do I have to exercise on the HcG diet?

Exercising while on the HcG diet can actually hinder your weight loss as it will slow the metabolism and cause your body to believe that it needs more energy, taking away your lean muscle mass. It is recommended that you take a daily 30-minute walk, but any additional or strenuous exercise will not aid in your weight loss on the HcG diet.

Who can use the HcG diet?

The HCG diet is suitable for almost everyone, from young to old, male or female, but it’s always recommended that you speak to our Naturopath before beginning any weight loss program. Pregnant or breast feeding woman should not do the HcG diet.

How much weight will I lose?

Results of the HCG diet will vary from person to person, but the average weight loss is around 1-2kg per week with fat loss averaging 1-1.5kg per week.

Will the weight stay off?

During your HcG diet you will also be shown how to maintain your weight plus our Naturopath will give you tips for weight maintenance. Our goal is to help you lose weight and to keep it off. People often comment that their relationship to food changes and that they often change negative patterns as well during their weight loss journey. These changes also help you to keep weight off after the weight loss phase.

Is the HcG diet safe and are there any side effects?

What does a typical day's eating look like when following the HcG Diet plan?

Typically you will eat 6 times per day. This is to ensure that your blood sugar levels remain balanced and that your energy levels are constant. It also helps ensure that you will not be hungry on the diet.
You can drink 2 x cups of tea or coffee per day and as much water and herbal tea as you like.
A typical day on the diet looks like this:
Apple
Rice Crackers
100grms protein such as chicken, beef, fish plus a salad or a soup
Pear
Rice Crackers
100grms of protein such as chicken, beef, fish, prawns plus salad or vegetables
1 piece of homemade guilt free chocolate.

Can I just do the diet without having a full Naturopathic Appointment?
