A popular new weight loss supplement that has hit the market is Garcinia Cambogia. It has been featured on TV and from there this “revolutionary” weight loss pill has caused quite a commotion. However, most people don’t know the ins and outs of this supplement and you should read more about it before jumping onto the band wagon. There are many people in the world that want to lose weight, but we need to think about our health and any effects that these pills can have upon our bodies.

Let’s explore more this weight loss pill and see what it’s really about.

What is Garcinia and How Does it Work?

Garcinia is a plant and the fruit rind of the plant is used to make this supplement. Research that is currently being developed suggests that garcinia could prevent fat storage in the body and also control appetite. However, there is no proof that this works in humans as of yet.

From what we know the jury is still out on this one. Some research suggests that garcinia is not effective in weight loss at all, whereas other research studies show the opposite, that it does help in weight loss. So from a research point of view, nobody truly knows for sure if garcinia is effective in weight loss or not.

From an experience point of view, the results are no different. Some people have claimed it to be very effective while others saw no results. It really could depend on a number of individual factors on how effective garcinia is.

What You Need to Know

Garcinia is actually a delicious fruit from Indonesia. It’s rich in many minerals and vitamins such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin.

However it’s main purpose is around weight loss. When the body metabolises carbohydrates, those that are not immediately used are converted into fats.

The rind of the garcinia fruit contains a compound known has hydroxycitric acid (HCA) which blocks fat by inhibiting citrate lyase, an important enzyme that your body needs to convert carbohydrates into fats.

Here’s the thing – those who have benefitted from taking garcinia have also made noticeable changes to their diet and their exercise routine. When people eat better and increase their exercise, weightless does tend to accompany that, and so it can’t really be determined whether garcinia has facilitated the weight loss, or if it’s the change in lifestyle.

There have also been cases where garcinia has caused side effects in people who are taking other medications including antidepressants, and in males there have been reports of testicular atrophy. Even if you aren’t a male, that’s going to cause you some concern!

At this point, research on garcinia is inconclusive, and when it comes to your body, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

If you are interested in losing weight, it’s always better to seek professional advice, have a proper weight loss assessment conducted, and have a program tailored to your specific needs.
