Tips on How to Get a Good Nights Sleep

good nights sleepWith autumn here, people’s sleep patterns will be thrown around a little as the weather changes and sunlight hours also shorten.

There’s no doubt that getting a good nights sleep makes you feel better, be more productive and look brighter.

Here are some of the tips that will help you enjoy your sleep and wake up refreshed.

Pre-Sleep Routine

Make sure you dim all the lights in your house to prepare your mind for sleep.  In fact, “blue” lights should be turned off – this includes TV’s, laptops and mobiles.

Take a good shower an hour before bed.  This will help lower the body temperature, relax the body and provide good sleep.

Don’t eat right before bed – if you need a nightcap, try chamomile or peppermint tea.

Bed Time

Don’t under estimate the importance of a good mattress.  It is absolutely essential that you Invest in good mattress that you are comfortable with.  Pick a mattress that is right for you and where possible, look at natural materials like cotton, latex, bamboo as your materials.  In fact, the right mattress also plays a crucial role in helping you wake up refreshed.

Find the right sleeping time for you, as everyone has his or her own optimal sleeping time.  If you go camping, this is easy to figure out – for most people, it follows the sunrise and sunset cycles.  In most cases, people who are camping people tend to go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier than in the normal home.  The natural solar day tends to govern the sleep cycle and helps in getting better sleep, making you a much healthier person.

Wake up conditions

Wake up at the same time every day – whether it’s 5am or 6am – pick what works and stick to it.  Maintaining a proper schedule is essential here, as your body is accustomed to a fixed length of sleeping time.  It doesn’t mean that you should beat yourself up if you go to sleep 10 minutes earlier or later – but you do want to ensure that you wake up at the same time every day – and this often means that you want to go to sleep at the same time every night.

Even if you sleep late on the odd occasion, make sure you wake up at the same time.  This helps control your body clock, otherwise a chaotic schedule will disturb your sleep routines.

Exposing yourself to sunlight upon waking is also a good way to wake up feeling refreshed and setting your body clock on track. You can go for a 20-minute walk after sunrise to feel fresh and energized – or you could try sleeping with the curtains a little open, so that you wake up to sunlight.

With that being said, you need to remember that what works for others, might not work for you and you will need to try a few things out.  Keep this mind as you follow these tips for getting a better sleep.
