COFFEE – WHY TO AVOID OR AT LEAST MINIMISE IT

By Blogs No Comments

Coffee-brisbane-25

When you have a coffee, the caffeine combines with the hydrochloric acid in your stomach and forms a potent toxin, caffeine hydrochloride. As this toxin is absorbed into your portal circulation and reaches your liver, bile is released in an attempt to flush it from your system. This is what accounts for the increase in bowel ‘regularity’ of which many coffee drinkers boast. If you are one of these people, you might ask yourself, “Is such a toxin-induced flush really very health promoting?” Coffee is also a diuretic and increases your need for water.

Drinking decaffeinated coffee is no better than drinking regular coffee because of the large concentration of the decaffeination chemical Trichloroethylene (chloroform). It is a close relative of the plastic chemical vinyl chloride, which has been linked to certain types of liver cancer. Trichloroethylene is used mainly as a degreasing agent in the metal industry and as a solvent and a dry cleaning agent in the clothing industry.

For 20 years, Columbian coffee planters have used, regularly and heavily, deadly pesticides on their plants. Some of the pesticides are Aldrin, Dieldrin, Chlordane and Heptachlor. Read More

IBS anyone?

Lady-with-sore-stomach

What if your gut is as useful as a bucket with holes in it? You may have what is known as “leaky gut”, which is a common underlying cause of IBS.

“Leaky gut” is the term used to describe intestinal permeability which occurs when there is a weakening of the protein fibers that line the gut wall, resulting in the formation of microscopic “holes” or “gaps” in the mucosa.

If your gut is “leaky”, then you are essentially unable to absorb the vitamins, minerals and nutrients which are required to facilitate the chemical reactions that keep our body performing like a well-oiled machine. It also means that you are not equipped to avoid exposure to the countless toxins and bacteria that we consume and create on a daily basis.

Leaky gut is highly inflammatory and is often the primary factor underpinning all Irritable Bowel Symptoms. Where there is inflammation, there is generally also irritation and pain. Read More

The Low-Down on Cholesterol

The Low-Down On Cholesterol

It seems that everyone is talking about cholesterol these days, but do you really know what it is?

What can you do to maintain healthy cholesterol levels?

Cholesterol is a type of fat that is carried around in the blood. It performs useful functions in the body and is a major building block for cells and many of your hormones, including oestrogen, testosterone and cortisol. Cholesterol is also important for the synthesis of vitamin D, as well as bile acids which aid in the digestion of fats. Our bodies manufacture cholesterol but it can also be found in foods containing saturated fats. It is important to check your cholesterol levels regularly. Even though our bodies need some cholesterol, having high cholesterol can be bad for your health and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

How to boost immunity and stop feeling sick

By Blogs No Comments

Your immune system is one the most complex systems on the planet. It is highly evolved and is able to cope with an amazing diversity of challenges. The problem is however, that the amount of stuff that your immune system has to deal with is increasing. Our world is not becoming cleaner, but is changing rapidly, with new chemicals and toxins introduced every day. The fact that allergies and many immune disorders are increasing is hardly surprising.

On top of that, as every parent knows, having a sick child is certainly not fun, it can impact on the health and wellbeing of the whole family. Whether it’s due to sleepless nights, sickness spreading through the whole family, or needing time off school or work, sickness can take its toll. It is vital for children’s immune systems to be in tip top shape to deal with whatever bugs are thrown their way, be it bacteria, viruses or allergens. So if your kids are getting sick with regular colds and flus, or are susceptible to eczema or wheezing or sneezing, then make it a priority to boost up their immunity and bring them back into balance. Are You Drinking Enough Water?

By Blogs No Comments

The Importance of Hydration.

If you are like most people, you don’t drink enough water on a daily basis. Researchers today believe that it is essential to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses (2 to 2.5.litres) of water per day if you are going to perform at your best. Unfortunately most people don’t follow this simple guideline for good health. The result is that over 90 percent of the public are unable to digest their foods efficiently; they retain too much fat and expose themselves to years of accumulated toxins.

Many experts now agree that a major contributor to illness is inadequate hydration of the body along with poor waste elimination. Increasing your hydration level has been shown to increase your body’s ability to transport vital nutrients to cells and to flush unwanted waste out of the system. This combined effect may be the single most important thing you can do to improve the efficiency of your body, feel better and get you on a long term path to optimum health. Read More

Switch to fat burning using the Shake It Weight Loss Diet

Switch to fat burning using the Shake It Weight Loss Diet

Your body has three main sources of energy. It can burn fat, glucose (carbohydrate), or protein. When we burn fat, we produce substances called ketones. These are produced normally, and when we measure these ketones in our urine, we know we are burning fat efficiently.

High levels of dietary carbohydrates, also known as high glycaemic load foods (e.g. sugars and starchy foods such as bread, rice, pasta and potatoes), work with the hormone insulin to ‘switch off’ fat burning and increase fat gain.

It becomes virtually impossible to lose fat if you have raised insulin levels. Read More
